DIY Floral Fairy Wings…

image

For Amber’s birthday I wanted a super special costume for her, and I thought fairy wings covered in fake flowers with lace and crystals would be perfect for a fun photoshoot. These were a couple of quick pictures I took just to see what they were like on, I cannot wait to sort the rest of the costume and have our proper photoshoot!

Here’s a little DIY if you fancy giving these a go yourself…

You will need:
3 wire coat hangers
Duct tape
Electrical tape
A pair of coloured tights
A pair of lace tights
Fake flowers
Glue gun
Thin elastic

Optional:
Hotfix gun
Hotfix crystals

First take 2 of the hangers and twist two into a butterfly shape

image

Tape together (duct tape would be better here) don’t worry about how neat you are here as this will all be covered. I also really struggled to get the wings completely symmetrical so either go for very thin wire hangers or be prepared to go for the rustic uneven look!

image

Take the third hanger and twist the ends up and pull the hanger down and round the centre of the wings. Twist tightly and snip the excess hanger off.

image

Cove up any sharp ends with electrical tape (the tape is a bit puffy so you can’t feel the sharp ends at all)

image

Chop the tights at the crotch and pull down over one side of the wings, twisting back over in the middle to pull the tights tight against the frame. Knot to finish off, again don’t worry about how messy they are here.
Repeat this on the other side.

image

Cut the ends off the lace tights and pull over the wire frame, knotting them together to finish off.

image

Take your fake flowers and position on your wings with a glue gun. If going for an unsymtrical design like I did (to hide my slightly wonky wings!) Remember that could send the wings off-balance when wearing them, so try to balance out the weight somehow either side.

image

Using a hotfix gun I glued a few crystals to add a subtle bit of sparkle. And I also managed to bend the wire a little more to even the wings out!

image

Lastly measure out your desired elastic length and sew into position on the back.

Enjoy being a flower fairy… I would love to see your creations if you give this a go!

The ‘Valentina’ lace heart tops…

image

My favourite piece this year has got to be my new ‘Valentina’ top, a simple long sleeved t-shirt with a gorgeous lace heart inserted in the back.
I have had some absolutely stunning images back, the one above with the gorgeous Lola and Emi wearing adorable burgandy hats is by the super talented Lookphotos Photography, I actually squealed with excitement when I received the Dropbox containing her images!

The most popular colourway so far has been the cream on cream. This image of Aria is also absolutely stunning!
Aria’s photo was taken by her lovely mumma Zoe Nicole, here’s her instagram link for more gorgeous pics and baby fashion inspo

Another popular colour (but a colour I didn’t have much fabric for) was this gorgeous dusky pink, it’s perfect with the burgandy lace or with the cream, so definitely looking at finding some more fabric this colour…

I love the fact Amber matched her room in this t-shirt!

Here’s the collection so far… What colours would you like to see?
I’m thinking black on black, more in dusky pink and a mint?
