Homemade lemoncello is the cutest gift, you can decorate the bottle to suit anyone; a girly girl or make it more grown up. I went for super cute bright pompoms and a big bow for my sister. I used a fairly cheap Tesco vodka because then I could reuse the bottle, it was easily stripped of labels and plain so could be decorated without distraction of branding. You can buy some gorgeous bottles though if you just wanted to invest in some amazing glass.
- 6 unwashed lemons
- 250g caster sugar
- 70cl vodka
- Kilner jar
- Glass bottle
- Ribbons and trimmings to decorate
First off remove the zest in strips using a vegetable peeler, then squeeze the juice from the lemons.
Pop 100ml of water in a pan with the sugar and lemon zest, bring slowly to boil while stirring occasionally. Reduce the heat once the sugar has dissolved and simmer for 15 mins. Add the lemon juice and simmer for 5 mins more. Remove from the heat and allow to cool.
Put the vodka and lemon syrup into the kilner jar, close the lid and shake. Leave in a cool, dark place for a week and shake the jar every day.
Strain off the lemon zest and pop in your bottle. Decorate your bottle with ribbons and trimming as you please.
